Mosaic Medical Center-Maryville celebrates 125 years

Mosaic Medical Center-Maryville celebrated the hospital's 125 years of providing care to the region during a special ceremony yesterday afternoon.

The hospital began in Maryville as St. Francis Hospital then SSM-St. Francis and during this past year was purchased by Mosaic. President of Mosaic Medical Center-Maryville, Nate Blackford, says there's been one constant at the hospital over the past 125 years.

"It's the compassionate care. At the end of the day, it's caring for people.  I think every caregiver, everybody who provides care, works in a hospital, works in the clinic probably has a personal story of why they chose to pursue this industry and this service.  But the compassionate care, the sacred work that gets performed, and just the servant heart that caregivers have.  Those are some of the things that are consistent.  They've been consistent for  125 years and they'll be consistent for the next 125 years."

Longtime Maryville physician Dr. Pat Harr says the region has been fortunate through the years to have a health care facility like St. Francis.

"This day and age of mergers and failures of health institutions to have a community hospital that's now 125 years old and thriving and providing the quality of care that we provide for patients here at St. Francis is almost becoming unique.  Longevity-wise a lot of hospitals go down financially or get swallowed up in mergers and so on.  The fact that even though out name has changed, you heard the name has changed, but the care hasn't."

Maryville Mayor Rachel Martin and State Representative Allen Andrews were on hand and read proclamations honoring the hospital.
